PRE-TRAVEL INFORMATION
Oxygen and Portable Oxygen Concentrator Requests
Passengers are not permitted to carry their own oxygen supply as carry-on or as checked baggage. Skyservice will be pleased to provide them with oxygen during their flight, upon request.
In order to deliver this service, passengers must submit their request (directly or through their travel agent) at least 72 hours prior to departure. If a request is made less than 72 hours, we will make a reasonable effort to accommodate your request. For information on our oxygen services, please contact Skyservice Customer Focus. Passengers may also download the necessary form by clicking on the below.
The following information is required to process a request for oxygen:
- A signed medical certificate from your licensed physician which shall include the following information:
- a statement confirming that you require oxygen during all segments of the flight;
- a statement confirming that you are fit to fly;
- the number of oxygen bottles required for all segments of the flight;
- the oxygen flow (low or high) and type of mask (nasal or cannula) required by you; and
- your physician’s name and telephone number.
- The medical certificate must be dated no more than thirty (30) days prior to the scheduled departure date for domestic and international flights and no more than ten (10) days prior to the scheduled departure date for trans-border (U.S.) flights. However, if the physician is of the view that a shorter or a longer period of validity is appropriate, Skyservice will assess the physician’s view, discussing the matter with the physician, if necessary.
The fee for oxygen use is CAD $150.00 per flight segment requested. The total amount is payable at the time of request, for all sectors of your travel, prior to your departure from Canada.
NOTE:
Passengers are permitted to check-in or carry-on cylinders that have been completely depleted of the oxygen content. If you choose to transport the empty oxygen cylinder as your carry-on item, please note that this must conform to our carry-on baggage size dimensions of 9x16x20 inches or 23x40x51cms.
Portable Oxygen Concentrators
Passengers requiring oxygen onboard the aircraft are permitted to travel with an approved portable oxygen concentrator (POC).
Passengers travelling with an approved POC are required to contact Skyservice no later than 48 hours prior to the departure of your flight. If a request is made less than 48 hours, we will make a reasonable effort to accommodate the passenger's request.
Currently, only the following models are being accepted onboard Skyservice aircraft:
- AirSep Freestyle
- AirSep Lifestyle
- Inogen One
- Respironics EverGo
- SeQual Eclipse
The list of approved POCs is subject to change. Please be advised that the POC must be affixed with a label of compliance that states that the POC is approved for use onboard an aircraft.
The following forms must be completed by the passenger prior to travel. The first, the Oxygen and POC Request From (and Terms and Conditions), must be submitted to Skyservice Customer Focus no later than 48 hours prior to departure. Passengers must present a signed copy of the second form, the Medical Certificate and Physicians Statement, upon check-in.
If your particular POC unit is not listed above, or for more information on the carriage of POC, please contact Skyservice Customer Focus at 1-888-571-0094.
Terms and Conditions for Usage of a POC:
- Upon check in, the passenger must present his/her Skyservice Medical Certificate and Physician Statement form completed and signed by his/her physician. The form should be signed no more than thirty (30) days prior to the scheduled departure date for domestic and international flights and no more than ten (10) days prior to the scheduled flight departure date for trans-border (U.S.) flights. However, if the physician is of the view that a shorter or a longer period of validity is appropriate, Skyservice will assess the physician’s view, discussing the matter with the physician, if necessary.
- The passenger is responsible for travelling with a sufficient supply of batteries to last the entire journey, as per his/her oxygen requirements. This includes the duration of the flight, all ground time (before and after the flight and during connections) and any unexpected delays. All batteries must be transported in carry-on baggage or the POC unit. Batteries are not permitted in checked baggage. Skyservice’s aircraft do not have electrical outlets onboard for product use and cannot support the POC unit if the batteries are depleted during flight.
Note: Only lithium batteries or non-spillable type batteries are allowed. Skyservice does not accept spillable (wet) batteries.
- The Skyservice Passenger Service agent must verify the POC Model and Skyservice Medical Certificate & Physician’s Statement form before acceptance.
- During taxi, take-off and landing, the POC must be properly stowed under the seat in front of the passenger or in the overhead bin. The passenger must be seated at a window seat with a seat in front of them that does not restrict any other passenger’s access to an exit or the aisle. Passengers using a POC may not be seated at a bulkhead or emergency exit row.
- Passengers may use the POC while moving around the cabin as long as the “Fasten Seat Belt” sign is not illuminated.
- If the POC is to be carried onboard the aircraft as carry-on baggage and is not intended to be used in flight, the POC must be empty and free of pressure. The battery must also be removed and packaged separately, unless the unit has at least two effective protective features to prevent accidental operation.
- The Passenger must ensure that the POC is free of oil, grease, or other petroleum products, and is in good condition and free of damage or other signs of excessive wear or abuse. Verification of appropriate maintenance of the POC must be provided by the passenger upon request.
